We all know about the global recession of the world, which is causing a lot of problem for the whole world. Unemployment is considered as one of the major consequence of this recession that ultimately results in increase in the number of crimes like robbery, rape, kidnapping and many other street crimes. In such a problematic situation, every individual must be aware of the self-defense techniques in order to secure himself. The online self defense methods are easily available for all. Some most effective self-defensive techniques are explained as below:

1. Stamp heavily on the foot:

This is the easiest technique that everyone can use easily in case if opponent is trying to grasp you. If you stamp on the foot of opponent, it will generate much time for you to escape but the basic drawback of this techniques is that it is not as effective as others techniques are.

2. Smack on ear:

Ears are considered as a sensitive part of a human body. So smacking at the ear causes intense pain or even it can cause serious damage to the eardrum. This self-defensive technique is mostly preferred by the experts.

3. Kick at knees:

This is also an effective self-defense technique because it causes much pain to the attacker as well as it will resist him/her in following you.

4. Punch at solar plexus:

Solar plexus is the sensitive area of a human’s body that is just above to the stomach. Punching at the attacker’s solar plexus will make it difficult for him to breath.

5. Do a combo:

“Do a combo” mean to hit the attacker with two, three or more attacks collectively one after the other. This technique will cause him/her much damage and your chances to escape will be enhanced.

Whether you are comfortable with someone you have know for a while, or someone comes to visit you at your workplace because they are trying to get to know you better, you must stay aware! Remember this, as comfort level goes up, awareness goes down. We can not let that be the case folks!

The first secret to protecting yourself is to be an inconvenient target to an attacker. Of course, this means exercising street smarts, a subject we will cover soon. But sometimes street smarts are not enough. Sometimes, like it or not, you have no choice but to protect yourself. In such a situation, you must become an inconvenient target. Attackers look for easy prey. You want to be a challenge. Therefore, if somebody approaches you in a way that seems strange, you MUST be prepared to make a scene and to shock and distract your attacker. Making a scene is not hard. If someone is attacking you, you need to react quickly. You have no time to worry about how you look or whether you are making a fool out of yourself. You must be ready to scream, scratch, bite, kick, spit, and do whatever else is required to make a scene. So, when someone approaches you and seems likely to attack: 1. Take a step back and put your hands up, palms out (in the “Stop” position). This is a non-aggressive but effective defensive position.

2. Yell “Stop!” and keep yelling as long as it takes to get attention. Kids should be trained to yell a long time, starting with, “Get away from me. I don’t know you and you are not my parent. Get the heck away from me….”

3. If the attacker grabs you, shock him with a clap on the ears, scratch in the eyes, poke in the throat, toe/knee in the groin, or anything else you can do to hit them in their vulnerable areas.

4. NEVER stop struggling. It only gets harder as time passes. Keep yelling and fighting and try to get attention. If you get even a split second of time, run as fast as you can to get somewhere safer.

Bottom line: Forget what you have learned about good manners when you are attacked.

This information is too important to keep to yourself. Please absorb this material and pass it on.

Batons are perhaps the most effective tools of self defense. Better even than stun guns or pepper sprays. Batons are like short fat sticks and come in a variety of types. The best ones are the foldable batons – popularly known as the telescopic batons. The good part is that when folded, it can be put in your purse. The minimum length is just 6 inches – shorter than you must have imagined!

Batons are especially a good weapon for self defense for women. More so, if she has to travel a lot and travels to places which have a potential risk factor. If she senses that nay physical harm could come to her, she can easily use a baton for acts of self defense. If you’re worrying about the weight, there is actually no reasons to worry about it since these usually come in lightweights. Of course, the batons used by the police are a little on the heavier side.

Let us look at some popular available options.

•Stun Batons: What makes it special is the ability to produce and shock your attackers with almost 800,000 volts! Fear not, because this will not make you a murderer because the amperage is very low. If it would have been high, there would have been a chance of turning your attacker(s) into charcoal! These also come in variable sizes (standard sizes) and can be telescopic too.

•Pepper Mace Batons: This is the handiest of the self defense weapons that are in use these days. They are so small that they can be carried in your shirt pocket as well as your purse. The strongest of the pepper mace baton comes as an aluminum alloy and has a special in-built compartment for storing the pepper mace. Apart from being used as a stout stick, the pepper spray makes it an effective immobilizer weapon. Not only will the blow be solid but the pepper spray can make the attacker go tears!

•Steel Baton: The best and the strongest of the impact batons are the steel batons. They can crack open the skull of your attackers! They are lightweight and extremely strong. The steel baton has been given the telescopic form to make it more portable and lightweight. Combinations are being tried out for combining the pepper spray with the steel baton but purists argue that this weapon should be let as it is.

When it comes to defending yourself from an attacker or a mob, there is no ethics and morality. All you need to do is to act in self defense. Carrying such batons will not only give you mental strength but can help you travel fearlessly and confidently. Batons for protecting yourself are a must have tool for anyone. You should get it now!

Today’s self defense devices come in a wide range of type and shapes. One important question many have is how easy these devices are to aim. These devices have very large target areas, and are surprisingly easy to use effectively. Here are the effective target zones of three types of popular self defense products:

Pepper Spray

The pepper spray canister should be aimed directly at the attacker’s eyes and face. The formulation of pepper spray you have chosen will affect the required accuracy of your aim. Some sprays come out in a thick stream, while others distribute the spray in a fine mist or fog across a wider area. Try to stand upwind of your attacker, and take the wind into account when aiming. A one-second burst of pepper spray is enough to disable nearly any attacker.

Stun Gun

A stun gun must be applied directly to your attacker’s body. The electrical charge of a stun gun will pass through about two inches of clothing, such as a heavy sweatshirt or jacket. You need not worry about coming into direct contact with skin.

The stun gun should be held against your attacker for as long as possible- three to five seconds should be enough to disable any assailant. It may take slightly longer if your attacker is very large or is under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Most experts advise to keep the stun gun pressed against the target for as long as possible, or until your attacker falls to the ground.

For the best result, aim at the torso. Not only is it the largest target area, but it will also cause a more immediate reaction than contact with the extremities, such as a hand or leg. Soft muscle groups such as the groin, neck, or kidney area can also be particularly effective. If you must contact an extremity, aim for the elbow, face, or femur, as these areas tend to have more nerve endings.

TASER Device

A TASER device is most often used at a distance, in contrast with stun guns, which are designed to be used when very close to the assailant. TASER devices use nitrogen cartridges to fire electrical probes at an attacker. Both probes must come into contact with clothing or skin. Like a stun gun, the electrical current of a TASER device can also pass through thick clothing. The best target for a TASER device is the torso, which provides you with the largest surface area.

The probes must hit the body at least four to six inches apart. This requires standing a few feet from your attacker. The two probes separate from each other more the further back you stand. The ideal range of most TASER devices is between seven and ten feet, at which point the probes should hit the body about sixteen inches apart.

If only one of the probes manages to hit your attacker, some electrical current will still flow into his body, though it probably won’t be as fast-acting as if both probes had hit their target. If you miss with both probes, the TASER can also be used up close, as a stun gun, even if you’ve already used up the nitrogen cartridge.

If you find yourself being assaulted, and you are forced to defend yourself against an attacker, there will always be consequences of some sort. Many people forget to think about the potential aftermath before they are attacked. The aftermath of a self defense situation can often be nearly as scary as the assault itself. You will rarely be able to walk away from a violent encounter as if it never happened. Here are a few of the possible consequences for which you should mentally prepare yourself:

An Adrenaline Rush – You can expect that during and immediately following the assault, you will have a rush of adrenaline. This can result in a condition known as Tachypsychia, with effects such as time distortion, memory distortion, or memory loss. You will probably feel ‘wired’ and shaky as a result of the adrenaline. Your mind will still be producing fear even after the danger is over. While there’s nothing you can do to stop this rush of adrenaline or its effects, being prepared mentally can help you deal with it. Some victims of violence also find that going running to use up their adrenaline can help their body calm down following a scary confrontation.

Dealing With the Law – Even when acting in self defense, you can expect the police to become involved anytime you use a stun gun, pepper spray, TASER device, or any other self defense product. You will probably be expected to give a statement about the events. Be objective, and try to remain calm when talking to police. Using violence to defend yourself against an attack is legal, but the police will still be interested in hearing what happened, especially if the situation warrants charges against your attacker. You may also want to inquire about victims’ counseling or other programs that may be available to you as the victim of a violent assault.

Property Damage – Depending on the type of assault, you may have additional consequences in terms of damage to your property. For example, a burglar may have broken a window to get inside your house. Your purse, with your credit cards inside, may have been stolen during the attack. You’ll need to repair the damage, cancel your credit cards, and report any missing possessions to your insurance company.

Feeling Secure Again – Once you have been attacked, it can take some time to become comfortable continuing your daily routine. You may find yourself looking over your shoulder more than usual, wondering if you could be attacked again. Being attacked can make you aware of the possibilities, and that can be very scary.

Many victims of crime find themselves compelled to install additional locks and other security measures at home, or to carry pepper spray, stun guns, or other devices, especially if they did not do so before the attack. You may worry that your attacker will come back for revenge, or simply realize how unprotected and vulnerable you were. No matter the reason, taking steps to protect your safety is important, whether or not you have experienced a violent altercation.

If you are looking for a more hands-on method of self defense, or work in the security industry, you may be thinking about purchasing a baton. No two individuals self defense needs are the same, and batons make a good choice for many. However, theyre not for everyone. They do require some knowledge and skill to use them correctly. Also, it helps if you have size or strength on your side. In its most basic form, a baton is a blunt stick that is used for self defense at close range.

Stun batons are one of the most popular types of batons. These combine the blunt force of a baton with the fast power of a stun gun to quickly bring an attacker down. Stun batons have been seen as all-in-one protection. The added benefit of the stun gun is affective against any type of attacker, no matter how hard you hit him with the baton. Some also include additional features like a heavy-duty flashlight or high-pitched personal alarm that can scare away attackers before they come close enough to do any harm.

Most batons are expandable or telescoping, so they are a relatively small size until needed. This allows you to carry them in a bag or on a belt loop, in a carrying pouch or in a holster. Lightweight batons can be taken nearly everywhere with you. They come in a variety of sizes so that you can choose a model that would be comfortable for you. These batons open to their full length with just a flick of the wrist. Fully extended batons give you the ability to maintain your distance from the assailant. Many styles have rubber grips or a side handle to make the baton easier to handle and use, even in conditions such as in the rain where you might otherwise lose your grip on the baton.

To use a baton for self defense effectively, you may wish to watch a few self defense videos, if you dont have any prior training in the use of a baton. Batons are used not only for hitting the assailant, like a stick. They can also be utilized to stabilize your fist, gain leverage on an assailants fingers or wrist, or apply pressure to sensitive parts of the body.

Batons are used by law enforcement officials, security guards, and other around the world. Their impressive appearance may even scare away an assailant while allowing you to keep a safe distance. They are often chosen as a way to fight attackers who are hands-on, as an alternative to punching, kicking, or other physical methods of fighting back. If you are confident in your strength and want a more hands-on method of self defense than, for example, an alarm or pepper spray, then a baton may make a sensible choice for you. If you are less sure of your strength, choose one with a stun gun feature, so that your assailant will be disabled no matter how hard you are able to fight back.

Studies show that a struggling economy yields a higher incident rate of violent crime and general lawlessness. That means you are more likely to find yourself in potentially explosive circumstances that can lead to injury or death. A lot of martial arts students, including both children and adults, think their training gives them an edge during such confrontations. In truth, it does. But, not in the way many students believe.

In this article, we’ll explore the nature of violent crime in the context of how martial arts and self-defense converge. I’ll describe the mental game and the danger of emotions. I’ll also explain the core difference between defending yourself and fighting; many people think they’re doing the former when they’re actually doing the latter. Lastly, we’ll discuss how you can respond constructively to a threat of violence while controlling your environment.

The Mental Game Of Self-Defense

Suppose an attacker is coming toward you. Your instinct is to protect yourself. If you have studied karate, kung fu, or similar styles, you might be tempted to respond physically. Unfortunately, doing so can result in injury, death, or criminal charges in the event that you overreact and cause excessive harm to your attacker. This is the reason it is critical that you are mentally prepared to respond appropriately to a confrontation.

Your mindset plays a key role in remaining safe during a potentially violent situation. In fact, the manner in which you process your circumstances and calculate a response may represent the largest potential threat to your safety. Too often, emotions get in the way and lead to disastrous consequences.

Understanding The Danger Of Emotions

Anger and fear do more to escalate a confrontation than any other response. Emotions are the antithesis of logic. They often obfuscate the reality of a given threat, concealing possible paths toward a non-violent resolution.

It’s worth noting that few crimes of aggression (i.e. robbery, vandalism, etc.) are done with the goal of fighting. When someone robs you, they seldom want to fight. Martial arts students, prompted by fear or pride, will often react physically to an aggressive crime, which escalates the threat. It prompts a violent response from the robber or would-be attacker.

The Difference Between Fighting And Self-Defense

People fight for many reasons, though most of them can be categorized according to two primary triggers: to attain something or protect something. This can extend to private property, self-esteem, pride, or a vague sense of honor. These things have nothing to do with protecting yourself from physical harm.

Self-defense represents any action you take in order to protect your person. The problem is, many martial arts schools unwittingly encourage their students to use the style they are learning to “protect themselves” from criminals. There is a fine line between defending yourself from physical harm (a level to which few crimes need to escalate) and fighting. The former is defined by a preservation of personal safety. The latter represents combat.

A Constructive Response To A Threat Of Violence

First, shed your fear and anger. A threat of violence (for example, a firearm pointed at your chest) does not represent violence. Reacting to the threat because you are fearful or angry can lead to injury or death.

Second, don’t challenge the attacker unless it is likely that you are going to be harmed. If he is demanding your wallet, give it to him. If he wants your car, provide the keys. Regardless of how accomplished you are at aikido, Taekwondo, or judo, it is a rare situation that justifies using your martial arts as self-defense.

Third, provide your attacker with an exit strategy. If he feels cornered with no way out, he will react violently, often with deadly force.

There is a time and place for using martial arts as a tool for self-defense. However, the key to remaining safe in potentially violent circumstances is to recognize that such occasions are rare.

If you’ve taken self defense training classes, then you probably know that there is a difference between the strategies you’ve learned and practiced in class and a real fight or self defense situation. There is also a big difference between the staged fights you see in movies and what actually goes on if you are attacked. Take a look at your assumptions before you are caught in the position of having to fight back against an assailant using unrealistic tactics. There are three main differences between the types of fights you’ll be engaging in during martial arts instructions and what you’re likely to find in a situation where you are truly defending yourself against an attacker.

In both movies and martial arts classes, fights are pre-staged. This is an essential difference between what you see and what could happen in a real-life scenario. The moves are memorized step by step, with no room for variations or decision-making under pressure. If all of your training has been the memorization of specific moves, then you have not developed the critical skills required to fight back when you are actually being attacked. Your assailant will not move in ways that are easily predictable even if you have a martial arts background. A self defense situation will be chaotic and stressful, and your memorized moves won’t fit into your response in this situation.

Self defense training tends to coddle trainees. In a practice fight, your attacker won’t be coming at you with a knife or gun, and may not even be coming at you full force. In a real situation, you can’t expect your attacker to back off for any reason, even if you have already given up your wallet and cell phone and are on the ground. You must use everything you have to fight back if you want to escape a dangerous situation.

Pre-staged fights are emotionally sterile. You know what to expect and that the fight is coming. Even if you’re nervous before a martial arts competition, it could never compare to the nerves you will be facing if you are ever attacked. The reality is that you never have time in advance to prepare before you are attacked. Your heart will be racing and you may panic, forgetting everything you’ve learned. An attack is one of the most emotional situations you could ever find yourself in.

Even though self defense training might not realistically replicate a self defense situation, this doesn’t mean that the training is not valuable. When you are attacked, confidence is key. If you plan to undergo martial arts training as part of your personal defense strategy, make sure that it focuses on real-life scenarios, not step-by-step moves. In addition to martial arts moves, you should always make a secondary plan to protect yourself. Have pepper spray or a stun gun, for example. Remember that the “bad guy” will often come armed, and your martial arts moves will be no match for his preparations. If you really want to survive a real-life attack, martial arts training alone may not be enough.
