It can happen to anyone!! Young, old; rich, poor; Protestant, Catholic, atheist; it knows not the boundary of neighborhood good or bad; white, black, yellow, brown, green-it knows not the difference of color although it prefers African Americans who are poor; male or female it makes no difference although it prefers females between the age of 16-24. Eighty five to ninety percent of the victims are female who more than likely know their attacker.

It is estimated that it causes 25% of workplace problems like absenteeism, lower productivity, and excessive medical benefits use to the tune of more than $5.8 billion annually. Seventy eight percent of all Human Resource Directors recognize it as a substantial employee problem. It costs corporate America $1.8 billion in lost productivity. Eight million man days of paid work and 5.6 million man days of household work are lost annually.

It is the largest cause of injury to middle aged women but it happens to men as well. It is estimated that between 3.3 million and 10 million children see it annually. Twenty two percent of middle class divorces are caused by it.

It affects every fabric of our society-it knows no limits. It is also estimated that nearly 50 percent of all suspected cases go unreported.

But I guess domestic violence in America is really not that important or cost enough in economic or social terms or you would hear more about it. I mean after all is said and done ninety percent of family violence defendants are never prosecuted.

One out of three women report some form of physical or sexual abuse in their lives most often a member of her own family. Maybe that’s not enough. Every year four to six million cases of physical violence occur in intimate relationships. Maybe that’s not enough. And remember only fifty percent of cases are reported.

Police respond differently to domestic violence calls than to other calls. Women in jail for a killing in a domestic disturbance get sentenced an average of 15 years while men get an average of 2-6 years. In 1990 there were 3800 animal shelters and 1500 shelters for battered women.

Why is there such a double standard or no standard? Indeed it is a very complicated issue that we are not going to solve today right here and now. But the laws on domestic violence need to change, society’s view of the problem has to change, and until that happens domestic violence as we know it will continue to flourish and grow.

In the meantime women would be well advised to be prepared and consider what to do in an emergency. There are a multitude of resources on the local, state and federal level available, but in the end it is going to fall on your shoulders to arm yourself with the tools for self defense or survival.

Those tools might include developing some knowledge of warning signs; learning some techniques on self defense; carrying some non-lethal self defense weapons; developing a workplace and personal safety plan. Don’t rely on someone else. You are the one that will make a difference!

Is there still any crime-free zone nowadays? If you would watch news on your television or read them from newspapers or perhaps listen to the radio, there are always crimes on the headlines every now and then in many different places. Such events should bother you as a member of the Police Records Search where you belong because those are threats to your life’s security as well as the security of your children and other family members and friends.
Although it’s quite alarming, you don’t have to be helpless because there is a way to still safeguard yourself from such threat. That is to perform a Police Records Search just like what others are already doing now. You can never avoid the fact that everyday you get to meet some unknown individuals with different appearances and personalities. You just have to remember that those who have pleasing personality might be the other way around inside his heart and mind. For you to know the real man inside, you should take time to check on that person’s police record.
A police officer is responsible for documenting any interaction that occurred between an individual and a police man. Thus, it is called a police record. It covers all minor and major cases such as domestic violence, traffic accidents, thefts, fraud, assaults, burglaries, stalking incidents, and others. Searching for these records will lead you to those various information about the involved persons and witnesses such as their full names, address, phone number, birth date, and other identifying details. Thus, you will have the chance to more fully know that person that you’re checking on based on his police record, if any.
Police records are open for anyone’s access and use. No matter who you are and what you are in your society, you were given the right to view such Public Police Records according to the imposed policies and procedures of the state. Certain police departments are asking for an administrative fee for you to obtain the information although the information per se is free-of-charge. Various states have various jurisdictions too. That is why you should know what your state is imposing because some states do not allow anyone to access nor use a particular police record especially if that contains sensitive information about an individual that they have to keep as private.
It’s not normal for a parent to put his child in a risky situation or for someone to ignore a possible harm that may happen to a friend or anyone close to his heart. Thus, knowing how and where to find these Public Police Reports must be of high priority and importance. Without any doubts, your local police departments have these records on files. So, you can get assistance from them. Aside from them, the use of computer and the internet are also of big help. There are service providers online that you can turn to anytime you wanted to have a perfect and a hassle-free search with a minimum charge only.
Indeed, you always have the means to protect yourself against the danger that surrounds you. Choosing the best record provider for you is the best thing that you can do. For that, you have to make sure that you’ve chosen such service that will produce a trustworthy report that you can utilize anytime. To be sure that you have the right one, there are available review sites online that you can read so that you won’t be trusting and paying for the wrong record provider.

When you think about workplace violence, what comes to mind? Because, the way you define anything – including workplace violence – limits how you will deal with that thing!

In fact, when most managers, administrators, or business owners think about workplace violence and the types of people who commit these acts, they limit their definition to the aggressive employee who lashes out at others on the job. And, while the aggressive employee is one type of assailant, there are many industries, including healthcare, where this type is least likely to ever emerge as a problem.

In the realm of workplace violence, there are actually 5 attacker types! By type, I don’t mean what he or she does to commit an act of violence – nor do I mean the weapons they use, or anything of the like.

What I mean by type is…

“The relationship that the attacker has to the company and it’s employees as targets!”

As I teach my clients, here are the five workplace violence attacker-types:

1) Current Company Employee. This is the attacker that everyone tends to focus on. However, as in the case of schools and universities, organizations can forget “non-traditional” workers or members of the company community such as students, independent contractors, and the like. This belief that it is only employees who attack creates the most risk in companies where there is a great working environment and everyone is getting along. In fact, the medical and healthcare industries have one of the lowest incidents of employee-initiated violence. And yet they rank near the top for total number of incidents of workplace violence!

2) Former Employees. It’s easy to forget those who were fired or quit under less-than-happy conditions. Once gone should not be “easily forgotten.” Usually, workers who are “let-go” for poor conduct or performance have a long string of employment problems elsewhere. And, many of these people hit bottom and develop levels of stress, anxiety, and depression that cause them to turn their blame outwards. A high percentage of workplace violence attacks come from employees who have been fired weeks, months, and even years before the attack!

3) Outsiders – Customers or “Strangers.” These are the attackers who choose a target for whatever reason, but have no direct ties to the company itself. The terrorist attacks on the twin towers of the World Trade Center is a perfect example of this. Another example is the robber who holds up a convenience store, or the customer who doesn’t like the bill he just got from the mechanic who repaired his car.

4) Domestic Violence. This is the spouse or significant other who enters the company to commit an act of violence on a specific person. However, there is often considerable collateral damage due to other employees “getting in the way” or getting caught in the cross-fire!

5) Off-site Client Attackers. This attacker is a virtual unknown to many. But, every year, thousands of employees – in-home visiting nurses, salespeople, utility workers, and others – are assaulted, beaten, robbed, and killed by clients, customers, and others while working outside of the company’s walls!

As you can see, if you expand your perspective and definition of who perpetrates acts of workplace violence, then what you need to do to protect yourself and your people from it, must expand as well.

Fortunately though, training your people to be able to avoid, evade, escape from, or defend against attacks does not require different strategies and tactics for each attacker type. What “is” required though, is an understanding of how to respond in each scenario so as to be the most effective with the least amount of work.

Does your company have a solid and complete workplace violence training program? Do you and your workers know what to do should the unthinkable happen and you come face-to-face with violence in the workplace? Or are you betting the lives and safety of everyone involved that there isn’t someone right now, inside or outside your company, planning an attack? Get the facts and stop making safety decisions based on denial, apathy, or ignorance. Read my new workplace violence report, “Attack-Proof Your Facility!” It’s available free at: http://www.wcinternational.com

Jeffrey M. Miller is an internationally-recognized self defense expert and workplace violence defensive tactics trainer. Every month, he teaches literally thousands of individuals – alone or as members of groups and companies – how to defend against and survive acts of workplace violence. Mr. Miller is a co-author of the books, “Workplace Violence in the Mental and Healthcare Settings,” (Jones and Bartlett Pub. 2010); and “Using GIS in Hospital Emergency Management,” (CRC Press 2010); as well as several others.

Domestic violence is a growing problem nowadays, especially for women where they are threatened and in most cases quite mercilessly beaten. The actions that domestic violence will be interpreted under the laws and their physical and psychological attacks, and threatens the interference or harassment by the offender with the intention of the victims in these cases, let the family or spouse.

Domestic violence between couples is quiet common and most of theTimes the victims are women, although several such violence could also be extended in the direction of step-children. In such cases, the law of certain rights, looks to be discussed here. Dealing with these situations alone is not advisable, but you should contact your local domestic violence advocate and family counseling.

Such steps could be very useful in repairing your relationship, but if you think that the reason for such violent threats that your spouse has amental disorder or disease of some kind, or the mere fact that he / she enjoys giving these threats, and it is difficult for you to prevent or control them, then it is better for you to take legal advice provided by your state or district lawyer to take domestic violence.- Felony lawyer

The most important means in the law for such behavior is the protection order or an injunction that orders to keep offenders away from the victim. The injunction is the perpetrator to stayaway from the apartment of the victim, at home or at work, and it could take on a larger scale and thus a separation and have some distance to hold perpetrators, say 100 meters or 1 km, etc. If an offender is found violating this order , then he / she may for the debt that a criminal act is charged as such. Even if the offender struck the victim, he / she could be charged with more offenses such as assault or battery.- Felony lawyer

The question you might want to ask that whether theProtective or restrictive to be useful in such situations. These orders are very useful in many situations, as for the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators themselves, so they act as a deterrent to the offender and the mere thought of to be arrested or sent to prison so that prevents them from such actions in the future. In some cases, these commands can add to prevent the anger and not the perpetrators. In such cases, the perpetrators, rather than trying to change his / her own behavior increasesto avenge the violence. The law may provide some degree of security even in such cases, but there is no guarantee perfect that stop the perpetrators act in this way.

Human Aggression

Aggressive human beings use threats, violent actions, shouting, swearing loudly etc in order to dominate. They can resort to cheating tactics, deceit, or sly forms of negotiation to obtain whatever dominence they think fit for themselves.

Brutality in humans is often seen as a form of a evil passion which is appeased by the shedding of other peoples’ blood, destruction of their belongings and the designed collapse of the world around them.

Violence

Agrression and violence appears only to bring on more violence rather than decrease it. The offender who normally is totally lacking emotion during violence, simply views his intended victim as an object, thus reducing the chances of feeling empathy, and therefore allowing the offender to belittle or hurt the victim, sometimes to the terrible extent of death.

Verbal aggression, which doesn’t necessarily involve violence or injury to others’, is the offensive use of the voice to destroy confidence. This in turn can lead to great stress for the aggressed and if put into a situation where they feel trapped they could resort to violence in return.

Dominance

In most cases dominance aggression occurs mainly in males which is very obvious by the amount of women’s shelters around since the turn of the century. This male dominent form of aggression often can worsen after punishment for previous previous misdemeanours.

It also seems to run in family lines, such as brothers’ who are the offspring of a violent father. Dominance aggression will normally be directed at women, but quite often is directed towards children and animals.

Individuals

Individuals that seem to be frustrated in achieving their aims often resort to aggression of varying forms. These people normally aim their anger in the direction of whoever happens to be standing in their way or passing by at the time.

Avoid Conflict

If we know how to avoid conflict, we can all benefit, even the aggressor, although they do not necessarily appreciate it at first. The usual cost of not avoiding conflict however is real misery and discomfort or even injury, because we cannot see any other way out and therefore we end up feeling even worse.

Everyone deserves to know how to avoid aggression and conflict in order to lead a perfectly normal, happy and peaceful life.

Behaviour which is solely aimed at causing psychological harm, real harm, pain, personal injury or physical and emotional loss can now be dealt with by everyone. There is no need for suffering of any kind, whether physical or mental to be endured.

An aggressive nature in others is one the most common behaviour problems known today. It is naturally, a well established defense mechanism, but it also destroys and eradicates humans, causing the destruction of everyone and everything natural, both in man, beast and the world.

The hostile behaviour used to make attempts at domination, whether of man, woman, child or beast no longer need be tolerated and the overt behaviour which can impart damage and hurt, the feeling of fright, or just total lack confidence in an individual can be very easily overcome.

Have you ever asked yourself if there is still a safe place to live with during this time? The Public Police Records and other forms of media such as newspapers and the radio usually contain reports on various crimes that occurred in several locations worldwide. Isn’t that a bothering situation? Those crimes should somehow affect you because they might eventually destroy the peaceful life that you have built for yourself and your family.
Despite all these crimes, you still have a way out. How? Perform your own Police Records Search like what other people are already doing. Since you do different things everyday and you also go to different places, it is always possible for you to encounter new faces and names on your way. The people you meet vary in different ways. Others may look good while others don’t. However, you have to bear in mind that it’s not the look that will identify if a person is safe to be with or not. That’s why it is advisable that you search for those available police records so that you will know what’s behind those faces and names.
A police record is not just an ordinary record. It is an official record that is created by a police officer for every interaction that happened between a person and the police. That is, any interaction. Such events as domestic violence, traffic accidents, thefts, fraud, assaults, burglaries, stalking, etc. may be included in this kind of file. Oftentimes, this document reveals important information such as the full names, address, phone number, date of birth, and other identifying information of the persons who are involved as well as the witnesses. Hence, a police record will tell you things that you need to know about the person that you’re investigating.
These police records are often disclose for the service of the public. For as long as you adhere to the policies and procedures that are imposed by the state, these Public Police Records are surely obtainable. The information that you will get from those police departments is in fact, costless. However, some may require a small administrative fee to be paid prior to providing the said information. On the other hand, it should not be ignored that the state has the right to prevent anyone from accessing or using a police report for the purpose of preserving the sensitivity of information that is contained in the file for the involved person’s privacy.
A parent does not put his child on the danger-zone. Likewise, a friend does not want that something wrong will happen to his friend or a loved one. That is why to avoid any of these things, it is important that you search on those accessible Public Police Reports and that you should have an idea on where and how to acquire them. One way to do this is through the service of your local police offices where these documents are surely stored. Another helpful way is to make use of an online computer where those commercial record providers who can provide you with such a great kind of service can be found.
In short, in the midst of all these crimes that are going on, you’re not left with no options yet. You can still secure yourself and your family too. In order to do that, you must pick up only the best and trusted provider that will provide you with what you need and you can do that by reading those various review sites which will tell you everything about those record providers.

Being accused of spousal abuse is a very serious matter. A husband or wife who has been arrested for spousal abuse not only faces the possibility of conviction, but also the chance of having his or her personal and professional reputation forever tarnished by criminal charges. A person accused of domestic violence may be found guilty in the eyes of the public opinion long before the court reaches a verdict. It is therefore important to seek sound legal counsel as soon as possible to help you defend your life and your reputation against the criminal charges you face.

Types of Offenses

If you have been arrested or criminally charged for acts of spousal abuse, you may be facing the following charges in court:

- Assault: The act of intending, threatening, or suggesting an intent to cause harm to another person, even if physical contact is never made.

- Battery: Causing or intending to cause bodily injury to a person by making violent physical contact with the victim.

- Sexual Assault: Making a sexual advance to cause discomfort or embarrassment to the victim.

- Rape: Forcing unwanted sexual activity on a victim through threats or force.

- Aggravated Assault: Assault committed with a deadly weapon.

- Aggravated Battery: Battery committed with a deadly weapon.

Any of these charges may be included in a spousal abuse case, depending on the severity of the domestic violence reported. You may face one count or multiple charges in a domestic abuse case, which can range from a high level misdemeanor to a severe felony. If you are convicted of any of the above crimes, you may sentenced with a jail or prison sentence, heavy fines, probation, and/or other forms of punishment.

Defending Your Case

No matter what crime you have been charged with, it is important to know that in a criminal court, you remain innocent until proven guilty. An experienced criminal defense lawyer can help you fight your criminal charges and will work to defend you against an aggressive prosecution. You have the unalienable right to a fair trial, and a criminal lawyer can provide sound legal advice throughout your case and ensure that your legal rights are upheld.

Self-defense is very important for you women out there, but it is even more important for you to be able to assess the risk of a situation. Below is a general women’s risk assessment guide:

The most important risk assessment tip is you need to listen to your instincts. Many people have instincts that warn them when they are in a dangerous situation. Pay attention to physical sensations that you associate with a warning and use that when you get into a potentially dangerous situation.

Everyone has boundaries that no one should be able to cross. Boundary violations can occur though, and they will usually start out small, such as tests where the person will cross your boundary, see if you notice it, display any discomfort, and yet say or do nothing. These tests can take seconds or minutes if a stranger is assaulting you or can be built up over months or years in the case of domestic violence. Some boundary violations can be verbal, such as name-calling and threatening, visual, such as staring or photography, and also physical.

Is someone trying to manipulate you or use ploys on you? Assailants will try to get you to do something even though you doubt their motives. They will insist you owe them something or try and distract. They will stretch the truth or flat out lie. If someone makes your instincts tingle then you need to get away from them.

Assailants will try to get you isolated from everyone else so they are able to do what they want without being caught. All an assailant needs is a compliant victim and an opportunity that they can strike. Boundary violations and ploys work to get the victim to comply with them, and then isolation gives them the opportunity.

The majority of you probably are thinking that isolation is only physical isolation, but you are also able to be isolated financially and socially. Social isolation can occur when you are in a crowd but do not know anyone or abusive relationships where the abuser makes you lose contact with your family and friends. Financial isolation can occur when the abuser controls all the money in the house and you do not have the money to leave.

It is very important that you trust your instincts, set boundaries that you let no one cross, avoid manipulations and ploys, and do not get isolated with people you do not trust. I hope this risk assessment guide helps you to stay safe.

Getting help in the state of California

The state of California issues emergency domestic violence restraining orders to protect families from physical violence and other abuse. It is unlawful for any adult family member to subject their children, spouse, or other family members to any kind of physical, sexual, or emotional abuse.

Victims of abuse can use a restraining order to receive legal protection from any abusive family member:

Mother or father
Stepparents
Aunts and uncles
Grandparents
Siblings

These protective orders can also protect people from people to whom they are not related, like a boyfriend, girlfriend, or the domestic partner of their mother, father, or other relatives.

The courts act quickly to institute the first restraining order on a temporary basis. A person must appear in court when the temporary order expires and present evidence of the abuse to be issued an additional protective order. These restraining orders can be instituted for up to 5 years at a time.

Confronting your abuser

It can be hard for many people to stand up and break the cycle of abuse they have been experiencing. Abuse is a terrifying situation for the victims and the thought of confronting an abuser takes a serious amount of inner strength and confidence.

Seeking a domestic violence restraining order in California is a method of confronting your abuser while being protected by the law. The process takes place in a court of law and the accused is legally prohibited from speaking to the victim during the proceedings.

There are no court fees associated with the process. Obtaining the initial restraining order involves submitting evidence of the abusive situation to a judge and he or she will make a decision within one day’s time. A lawyer can prepare your case for the hearing and help ensure your physical safety and legal interests are preserved before, during, and after the hearing.

GLASS FAMILY LAW represents victims of abusive circumstances while filing for restraining orders and settling larger family law disputes. Our firm is located in Beverly Hills and serves the greater Los Angeles community.
